Gwendolyn “Gwen” Cook passed away on November 24. For those of you who didn’t know Gwen, she was 94 years old and was one of the original homeowners in Rolando Park, residing on 69th St. Long before we had a community council in Rolando Park, she actively lobbied for sidewalks for the blocks around her house out of concern for children walking to school. She was a long-time RPCC member and until the last couple of years, still regularly attended meetings with her son-in-law, Terry, and continued to advocate for improvements in Rolando Park. She was unable to be physically active in RPCC activities these last few years, but supported us in our efforts and made donations to help us purchase our Neighborhood Watch signs and supplies for neighborhood cleanups. Gwen was a retired SDUSD teacher and in 2017, donated her beloved piano to Rolando Park Elementary, a school that both of her daughters had attended.
We will miss you, Gwen.
