Support our community by becoming an active member of the Rolando Park Community Council.

Rolando Park Community Council (RPCC) depends on memberships and donations to pay for our operating expenses, such as meeting space, mandatory insurance for meetings, and required state corporate costs in addition to our ongoing community improvement projects.

This past year:

  • We used grant funds to help more than 20 needy families at Rolando Park. Elementary buy groceries and other essentials. Additionally, we made a significant donation to the Kroc Center Social Services to help in providing meals and groceries to member families in need.
  • The joint use park at Rolando Park Elementary is close to completion and expected to open late this fall. For more than 10 years, the community council has advocated with our city representatives to prioritize a park in Rolando Park. We held public meetings to collect community input and successfully lobbied for a better design and amenities than what was initially proposed. As a joint use park, it will serve our elementary school kids and our community. Look for a ribbon-cutting ceremony announcement this fall to celebrate the park opening and we’re already planning other future community events.
  • The city is now completing a sidewalk on College from Judy McCarty Way to Livingston, a project that the community council prioritized more than 10 years ago. Unfortunately, due to city funding issues, the sidewalk north of Judy McCarty Way to College Grove is not being completed at this time. We have asked our city councilmember, Ms. Montgomery Steppe, to help prioritize completion of this section as soon as feasible.
  • Traffic calming and pedestrian safety in the community continue to be one of our top priorities. Our city councilmember has also made it a priority and it looks like traffic calming will be installed in the community in 2021 at some locations identified several years ago as needing traffic calming. Also at our request, the city’s traffic engineering department completed traffic studies on four other streets this year, but results showed that traffic calming was not warranted for these streets.
  • We’ve identified a grant to fund a monument sign at the College Grove entrance into the community in response to members’ requests for more community identity. We will be applying for this grant sometime in the next few months and should know before the end of the year if we can move forward with this project.
  • Community cleanups and a University Ave cleanup will resume sometime later this year. Our last cleanup in 2019 was a huge success and greatly improved the appearance of University Ave.
  • We’ve been successful in continuing to meet monthly online via Zoom and providing members with community updates and an opportunity to communicate directly with representatives from local government and SDPD. We’re optimistic that we will resume in-person meetings this fall.

We’re proud of our community council and our accomplishments, but we couldn’t do it without you.
