Two guests at this month’s meeting.

First is Madison Coleman from the Climate Action Campaign. The Climate Action Campaign is currently working with the City of San Diego’s Sustainability Department to ensure that the city’s next update to its Climate Action Plan (CAP) will address the needs of diverse communities such as ours in the Eastern Area that have been long neglected.

The Climate Action Campaign is meeting with communities in our area to learn about our needs and collect feedback that will be incorporated in the CAP update.

You can find more information about the Climate Action Campaign at:

More information about the city’s climate action plan is available on the city’s website:

Next, we’ll be joined by Officer Terry Hoskins, our SDPD Community Relations Officer. In addition to his daily work, Terry is often very busy behind the scenes working on community issues.

Terry chairs the Mid-City Homeless Coalition meetings, a group that he started a few years ago. Attendees include SDPD Mid-City officers, Neighborhood Policing Division, including the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) officers, City Park Rangers, Environmental Services Department representatives, and City Council Districts 9 and 4 representatives, County and nonprofit homeless service organizations, and residents of Mid-City communities including Rolando Park. The goal of the coalition is to try to reduce the effects of homelessness in Mid-City communities while looking for solutions to the needs of the homeless.

We’ve asked Terry to join us to talk about why he started the homeless coalition and what he hopes will be accomplished. There will be time at the end of his presentation for a discussion about best practices when reporting homeless encampments as well as Q&A.
